Feed additives play an increasingly important role in animal nutrition as farmers search for new ways to improve the performance and health of their animals. Globally there are hundreds of feed additives to choose from. Yet, it is critical to make informed decisions about what to add in your feed formulation for specific outcomes.
The 2019 AFMA Symposium taking place on 29 October 2019 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria will bring together nutritionists, veterinarians, feed formulators and feed manufacturers to examine key considerations in choosing the best animal feed additives based on scientific principles.
The symposium theme - “Feed Additives – How to choose?” – will be addressed in three sessions focusing on mycotoxin risk management, feed additives in practise, and feed additive science.
The symposium programme committee has carefully selected local and international industry experts to cover the following topics:
- The strengths and weaknesses of mitigation technologies for different mycotoxins
Dr Dieter Moll, Biomin, Tulln, Austria.
- Key control points in practical mycotoxin management
Dr Alexandros Yiannikouris, Alltech, Kentucky, USA.
- A case study - using a holistic approach to overcome the risk of mycotoxins
Dr Graziano Mantovani, Cargill/Provimi, Milan, Italy.
- Judging the data – the good, the bad and the ugly
Dr Pieter Henning, Meadow Feeds, South Africa.
- Feed processing versus feed additives
Dr Charles Stark, Kansas State University, USA.
- Improved feed-additive health benefits through novel encapsulation technologies
Dr Philip Labushagne, CSIR, Pretoria, South Africa.
- Enzymes as a resource for sustainable animal production
Mr Phokela Segobola, DSM Nutritional products, South Africa.
- Gut health management: Understanding the microbiome and improving gut efficiency
Dr Ahmed Khater, Evonik Limited, Egypt.
- Utilising alternative routes of uptake for Zinc delivery and consequential inflammatory reduction
Mr Tim Horne, Zinpro Corporation, UK.
The 2019 AFMA Symposium sponsors are Biomin Animal Nutrition, Cargill and Novus Nutrition Products Africa.
The event will be concluded with a cocktail “Meet and Greet” function sponsored by BASF, RCL Foods and Avipharm Feeds.
Delegates registered at the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) will earn CPD points for attending the symposium.
The closing date for registration is Friday, 18 October 2019 or when the maximum capacity of the venue has been reached. For more information and to register, visit www.afmasymposium.co.za
About AFMA
The Animal Feed Manufacturers Association of South Africa (AFMA) is the official industry representative body of the South African feed industry. AFMA members produces 60% (±7 000 000 tons of feed) of all animal feed used in South Africa, with the majority of the balance being produced on-farm and at Feedlots. It represents the South African Feed Industry on the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) as one on its Board members and is currently one of the five Exco members of the IFIF Board.
